  JORDANNE VALLEY

The Jordanne is formed between Peyre Arse and Bataillouze on the first South-West slopes of the Col de Cabre, in the opposite direction to the Santoire.

Between Aurillac and Velzic, the bottom of the valley is perfectly flat. Then, from the Lascalles gravel pit, the bottom of the valley shrinks away : the valley closes off entirely to take on the mountainous “V” shape, with gorges that continue right up to Puy Mary.

This valley remained very isolated for a long time. Wolves prowled the valley up until the start of the century and were caught in pits, examples of which can be seen at Caylat, Roquegrande and more accessible, on the Sentier du Col du Pertus (Pertus pass track) at Elancèze. The road crossing the mountainous barrier, which opened in 1937, at last gave tourism some momentum.

Lascelles

The Lascelles village hosts the “Vallée des Légendes” site: composed of wood or canvas tents, the UCPA centre offers theme camps for children from 7 to 11 years of age. From Zorro’s village with horse riding and fencing activities, to the Robinson Crusoe camp where the young castaways indulge in water sports (kayaking, fishing, hiking), the children quite simply learn to be at one with nature… and invite adults to follow suit by making the most of these re-enchanted areas !

Mandailles Saint Julien

Saint Cirgues de Jordanne will charme you if you are receptive to the harmony between the man-made environment and nature: old village draping the headland with its grey lauzes, Roman church (listed monument) near the shaded terrace and further on a finely outlined grassy hilltop. You will be overjoyed if you appreciate spectacular sights: although inaccessible, the Jordanne gorges are grandiose.
