TOURISM PROJECTS
The link between the listed site and the
surrounding valleys is being materialised on two levels:
Maison de Site at Pas de Peyrol and four Information
and Interpretation Centres.
The concept of the “Information
and interpretation centres“ on the Grand
Site "Puy Mary – Volcan du Cantal"
aims at meeting several objectives:
•
to improve the welcome, information
and advice given to tourists in an endeavour to broaden
the development of tourism in the valleys and surrounding
territories (cantons, department);
•
to develop the natural and cultural heritage
of the Grand Site and to introduce it to the general
public to give preference to a better understanding
of the site and encourage discovery;
|
Enclos
Cheylus - SMPM
•
to offer by-products
local produce, stays, entertainment, guided visits,
events, etc., improving the discovery of the Grand
Site, but that are also capable of bearing certain
operating loads related to managing and protecting
the massif;
•
to create a network to welcome the public
to the massif, uniting the partners and making the
site a genuine entity and tourist destination.
In each of these
Centres, guidance will be given via a tourist
information counter, then by an introduction to the
geomorphologic formation of the massif (common core
for all the centres and museum-o-graphic link with
the Maison de Site).

de Site du Pas de Peyrol - SMPM
Visitors
will then enter the real museographic section in each
of the centres, which embody the 4 basic elements
of the Volcano:
•
WATER at Mandailles Saint-Julien in the Jordanne
valley,
•
FIRE at Dienne in the Impradine – Santoire
valley,
•
EARTH at Le Falgoux in the Mars and Maronne valley,
•
AIR at Le Claux in the Petite-Rhue valley
•
La Maison de Site du Pas
de Peyrol will show the formation of
the landscape: eruptions, glaciers and man’s
input on the massif. It will also introduce the “discovery
theme spots” Valley Information and Interpretation
Centres.
